As mentioned in our previous post, Mariachi Veritas de Harvard performed for Shakira on February 26th. Needless to say, we were all very excited to perform for someone internationally-known. Each performer was afforded five minutes on stage and we used our five minutes to play a medley of “Un rinconcito en el cielo” and “El viajero.”

Cultural Rhythms is often the only opportunity each year Mariachi Veritas has to perform in Sanders Theatre, arguably the most-esteemed performance space on campus. The performance is doubly important because this is often the only time we get to perform for a very large and varied audience of students and residents. We went onstage to raucous applause from the audience and did not lose momentum throughout our five minutes.

After the performance, two members of Mariachi Veritas spoke with Shakira on stage. She even autographed our guitarrón! As I sat down in class days after Cultural Rhythms, a classmate came to me and complimented Mariachi Veritas on our performance.

We are currently on our Spring Break. Stay tuned to this page for information on future performances and our concerts, which will be the evenings of April 8th and 9th!

Hasta entonces,
